Osteopathy is a system of manual therapy to treat pain. Hands on techniques such as stretching massage and joint manipulation are used to treat biomechanical problems, such as joint strains and sprains, back and neck pains and sporting injuries.
What would I expect from a treatment
The first appointment here will last between 45 minutes and one hour. In this time, a full medical case history will be taken, and questions will be asked about the area that is painful and the history of any other aches and pains that may have occurred in the past.
After this a thorough examination of the area will take place. This may require you to undress as to expose the area. Gowns are also provided for patients to change into, however some patients may want to bring shorts to wear.
After the examination a diagnosis will be given. From this point depending on the case history and findings from the examination, treatment will be given. Along with osteopathic treatment patients will also be given advice on exercise and posture to aid a speedy recovery.
